Harmony High Junior Wrestler meets personal goal

By Rachel Williams, Harmony High School Intern Writer

Matthew Vaughn, a junior at Harmony High School, made it his goal at the beginning of wrestling season to place at the state meet, and he has now met his goal. Vaughn, who lives in St. Cloud, placed sixth among the130 pound qualifiers, competing in the 2A class at the recent State Tournament.

The tournament was held at the Lakeland Center on February 19 and 20.  The high schools represented in the 130 pound class included Milton, Oviedo, Leto, Olympic Heights, Osceola, Liberty, Dwyer, Menendez, Springstead, Palm Bay, Riverdale, Niceville, Durant, Jensen Beach and Belleview

.

“He wrestled well and was really able to capitalize on his draw,” said Christopher Todd, Head Coach for the wrestling team. “He was very excited to place, since it had been his goal all season.”

Alongside Vaughn at the tournament was Chris Grillo, a junior competing in the 140 pound class, and Ariel Dominguez, a freshman competing in the 103 weight class. Both these athletes came very close to placing, but were one match short.

Without question the Harmony wrestling team’s prowess is accelerating and they could be a formidable opponent next season.
